The outdoor sports equipment rental app

Challenge

The Loomi's app allows individuals to rent outdoor sports equipment in their local area. It is aimed at sports lovers who want to discover or practise activities that are often perceived as inaccessible due to the technical nature or high cost of the equipment. Renting is therefore a relevant alternative to buying.

After the app was launched, the teams quickly identified an imbalance: a large number of users were offering equipment for hire on their profiles, but too few booking requests were being made.

The main challenge was therefore to facilitate connections between individuals and increase rental requests by redesigning the home page, a key entry point for the user experience.

Solution

To solve this problem, I started by analyzing existing design patterns on similar applications. The goal was to refocus the interface on the application's primary function: renting equipment to individuals quickly and easily.

Given that the application was still new and little known to the general public, another challenge was to clearly explain how the service worked from the very first couple of seconds. The idea was to avoid "ghost" downloads and improve understanding of the value proposition in order to encourage retention.

Results

The suggested changes clarified the app's role from the home screen, highlighted geographical constraints as a central element of the experience, and optimised product display.

Reducing the number and size of visual elements allowed more equipment to be displayed on the screen, while better organising the information. Categories and labels were redesigned to leave more space for products, with smarter display based on user preferences and behaviour. Finally, work on colours and typography has improved the readability and consistency of the interface.

This project allowed me to tackle key challenges in mobile product design: making the concept of the application quickly understandable and optimising the user journey to generate real and regular use of the product.
